2025 Script to Screen Competition Winner Brought to Life by Event Horizon Films

(PRUnderground) April 21st, 2026

THE BEST DAYS OF RICHARD DAVIS, the winning short script of the 2025 Dallas International Film Festival’s Screenplay Competition, will premiere this month at the Oscar® Qualifying Film Festival’s annual event.

The DIFF Screenplay Competition, presented by Event Horizon Films, rewards top writers with a variety of prizes, including live table reads, industry recognition, networking opportunities and even a fully developed film.

Directed by EHF’s Zack C. Frizzell, THE BEST DAYS OF RICHARD DAVIS follows a successful husband and father whose outwardly perfect life begins to quietly unravel, ultimately revealing the complexity of mental health.

“This script struck me on a personal level,” said Frizzell. “The silent struggle of mental health is very real, and often hard to recognize. It was an honor to continue the conversation on this important issue through this film. A huge credit to the DIFF team for granting this powerful script, and its talented writer, the opportunity to been seen.”

Written by Phoebe Angaye (Denton, Texas), THE BEST DAYS OF RICHARD DAVIS will screen among other short film winners from the Denton Black Film Festival during the “Awards Shorts” block on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. at Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Victory Park.

The film stars Scott Bolger (New York) as Richard Davis, alongside Shirley Dalmas (Austin) as Stacey Davis, Skyler Kinney (Abilene, Texas) and Judy Lee (Austin) as Therapist. Meanwhile, the film director and several production team members have strong ties to the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, making its premiere at DIFF a meaningful exhibit for many of the artists involved, Frizzell said

The 2026 Dallas International Film Festival is Apr. 23, 2026, through Apr. 30, 2026, at Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Victory Park at 2365 Victory Park Lane.
